GWK Griquas overwhelmed and surprised the more fancied Vodacom Blue Bulls in the Vodacom Cup final at Loftus Versveld, by winning by 28 points to 19. The halftime score was 1509 in Griqua’s favour.
Although the Bulls put on the pressure from the start, via two Francois Brummer penalties and his drop goal, Griquas showed character and fought back, thanks to ex Valke player, Riaan Viljoen, who scored all of Griqua’s points, including the try. For the Bulls, it was Brummer who scored all their points, but the Bulls did not make use of their opportunities, as did the Griquas. GWK Griquas thoroughly deserved their win, thanks to the hard work so far, and earned themselves, not only the Vodacom Cup Champs, but also R1 million for their effort. Well done!
