GWK Griquas open their Currie Cup quest against neighbours, Free State Cheetahs, on Friday evening at Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein.
The aim of the Griqua team this year is not to end the season lower than 5th position, and have been working extremely hard since winning the Vodacom Cup, for the forth time, recently. Although, some of the key players are on the injury list, the team still has depth, but there is a shortage of locks at this stage, according to coach Dawie Theron. Injured players, from the end of last season, are well on their way to recovery and should be back in action, come Friday.
Eight teams will contest the Premier Division, domestic rugby’s most wanted prize: Boland Cavaliers, GWK Griquas, Platinum Leopards, The Sharks, Vodacom Blue Bulls, Vodacom Free State, Cheetahs, Vodacom Western Province and Xerox Lions
The GWK Griqua team to play against Free State Cheetahs on Friday night is; Riaan Viljoen, Egon Seconds, Wilmaure Louw, Barry Geel, Bjorn Basson, Naas Olivier, Sarel Pretorius, Heinrich Stride, Davon Raubenheimer, Jonathan Mokuena (c), Jacques Lombaard, Brendon Snyman, Ruaan du Preez, Ryno Barnes and Steph Roberts. Bench; Andries Kruger, Albertus Buckle, Sean Plaatjies, Rohan Kitshoff, Dougie Helmuth, Jaco Bekker and Gavin Passens.
