GWK were well and truly hammered in their Currie Cup fixture against the Vodacom Western Province at Newlands, in wet, slippery and terrible conditions on Saturday afternoon. The score 43-3, with the half time score being 24-3. The visitors were outplayed in most facets of the game, but also gave away far too many penalties, while they only had 39% possession of the ball during the match.
Joe Pietersen open the scoring for Western Province in the first minute of the match with a penalty, followed by three more in the 17th 20th and 23rd minutes. Brok Harris barged his way over for the first of five tries, in the 27th minute converted by Pietersen, scored by Province in the match, thus earning the bonus point. Griquas only points came in the 32nd minute when Naas Olivier succeeded with a penalty. From then on it was just Province, who scored 2 tries in the first half and the balance in the second. Other try scorers being Pietersen (1st half), Duane Vermeulen, Frikkie Welsh and Pieter Louw.
