The Vodacom Blue Bulls locked horns with GWK Griquas in the penultimate round robin  section of the Absa Currie Cup at Loftus Versveld on Saturday afternoon, with the home team running out winners by 61 points to 27 (27-13 to the Bulls at halftime).

Bulls opened the scoring with a try by former Griqua full back, Zane Kirchner, in the first minute, converted by Morne Steyn. However 3 minutes later, Griquas returned the compliment, when Sarel Pretorius went over for an unconverted try, but in the twelfth minute, Davon Raubenheimer snapped up a loose ball from a loose scrum to go over, also for an unconverted try, giving the visitors the lead for the first time. 10-7. Ten minutes later, Griqua captain, Jonathan Mokuena was yellow carded and from then on the Bulls capitalized scoring 17 points in the process, while Naas Olivier kicked two penalties, taking the score to 27 to the Bulls and 13 to Griquas at the halftime break.

The second half started in much the same way as the first, except that it was Griuqas who scored a try in the 3rd minute when Barry Geel scored a try, after a good break by Riaan Viljoen and Sarel Pretorius, but this time, Naas Olivier succeeded with the conversion. Three minutes later, Blue Bulls returned the compliment when Pierre Spies barged his way over for an unconverted try, a rare occasion for Morne Steyn to miss. However in the 13th minute, Griqua’s Rohan Kitshoff was sin-binned, once again allowing the Bulls the opportunity to score more points, another 17 points, via a penalty by Steyn, tries by Brian Habana in the 17th, Morne Steyn in the 20th, all converted by Steyn,  Bandise Maku in the 33rd,  converted by Francois Brummer, Habana in the 36th, unconverted, while Griquas bonus point try, by Naas Olivier, converted by himself, came on the final whistle.
