GWK Griquas made up for their drubbling in their last Vodacom Cup match against the Lions in Johannesburg two weeks ago, when they beat the Platinum Leopards, at the AR Abass Stadium in Kimberley on Friday, by 51 points to 21, collecting the bonus point in the process, and scoring 8 tries to 3.
The halftime score was 22 to GWK Griquas and 7 to Platinum Leopards, with Albertus Buckle scoring the first try for Griquas in the 10th minute converted by Logan Basson. In the 17th, Russel Jeacocks returned the compliment for the visitors by scoring a try converted by Jean Tiedt, while Basson put Griquas ahead with a penalty in the 20th. Seven minutes later, Leon Karemaker scored the home team’s second try, converted by Basson, while just before the halftime break, Griqua’s fullback, Bjorn Basson scored an unconverted try.
The second half was dominated by the home side with Dewald Pretorius, scoring two tries, Leon Karemaker and Albertus Buckle, both dotting down their second try each, while tries for the Leopards came via Rynard Landman and JovanBowles, both converted by Tiedt. Griqua’s Simon Westraadt put the final nail in the coffin, scoring an unconverted try, with 3 minutes left in the match.
