The SA National Barefoot Water Ski Championships were held in the friendly city of Mbabane Swaziland from 24-26 April 2010. Swaziland’s Minister of Sport & Tourism attends the Gala dinner on Monday evening 26 April 2010. In his opening speech the Minister delivers a message directly from the King of Swaziland. The message was a breakthrough for Barefoot Water Ski. The King announced that he endorsed the sport and wants to host such events on annual bases. The championships were covered by all Swaziland media including television.
Skiers from Kimberley who achieved exceptionally good results are: DJ Meyer was awarded 2 second places in the Junior Boys B division and Barnie Meyer was first in the Open Men B division for both Tricks & Slalom.
Wian Jacobs was first in Tricks, second in Jump and third in Slalom in the Junior Boys A division.
He was also overall second in the Junior A division. Wian was selected for the SA Junior Protea Team for his third consecutive year. The SA Team will participate in the World Championships, Berlin Germany, during August 2010.
Wian will train throughout the cold winter months and attend a 14 day training camp in Swaziland during the June holidays as part of his preparation for the world championships.
